Yamacraw Chip Design and Research Facility, Technology Square, Atlanta, Georgia

The Technology Square Research Building (TSRB) is a six-story, 200,000 square feet state-of-the-art research facility for the design of broadband infrastructure systems, devices and chips. The facility, located in Midtown, Atlanta at the intersection of Spring Street and Fifth Street, is leased by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia for use by Georgia Tech and seven of the universities in the university system of Georgia. 

Brookwood analyzed the need for the facility, programming and facilities requirements, and the optimum location within the State of Georgia. In addition to these issues, a number of spin-off businesses were identified during the study.  It was determined that additional space was needed and additional jobs would be created as a direct result of the Yamacraw program.

Brookwood provided program management support and feasibility study services for this facility. Brookwood’s feasibility study included project financing aspects such as the operating proforma, deal structure and coordinating with the capital campaign as well as preparation of the preliminary schedule and budget.

The Yamacraw initiative, a strategic economic development initiative combining academia, industry and state government, was conceived to strengthen and promote economic development for the State of Georgia through a four-pronged strategy of research, education, marketing and commercialization.
